W3C Games CG March 2025: Loading and Control API

— 1 min

During our W3C Games Community Group meetup happening on March 25th we’ve formulated the idea of a brand new Community Group being created specifically around the concept of Loading and Control API.

It all started with Tom Greenaway’s Open Mini Games proposal a few years ago, and was brought back during November’s meetup where we had Andrew Gildfind from GameSnacks talking about discovery, distribution, and monetisation.

The following is a proposed charter for a new W3C Community Working Group which aims to define a Micro-API outlining a boundary between a web game and the page on which it is embedded.

Feel free to go through Loading and Control API for Web Games Community Group Charter document and leave any comments or questions you might have about the goals, scope of work, or deliverables.

By creating a new group instead of having the current one we won’t be needing to change the charter, which would mean all members needing to actively agree to it or be kicked out. The original group was created to have an open discussion (mostly through our online meetups) about web games in general, which can still serve its purpose, while the new one would actually focus on the work needed to have such API documented and implemented.
